A walled kitchen garden

A forgotten walled corner of a country garden brought back as a kitchen garden, with raised beds, gravel paths and a restored gateway.

The brief

The owners wanted to grow their own fruit and vegetables in an old walled area that had disappeared under brambles and ivy.

The challenge

Old brick walls in need of repair, poor soil, and a gateway that had to be rebuilt without losing its character.

What we did

We cleared the area, repaired and repointed the walls in lime mortar, and laid out raised oak beds between gravel paths. The brick archway was rebuilt and lavender lines the main path.
