South Buckinghamshire has some of the most varied gardens we build: woodland plots around Cholesbury, large family gardens in Amersham and the Chalfonts, and village houses in Great Missenden and Chesham. Many of them are on higher ground where the soil holds water and the trees are old.
The work is often large in scale, with groundwork, drainage and ponds alongside the terraces and planting, and it usually needs careful planning around mature trees.
What matters when building in Chesham and Amersham
Chilterns National Landscape
Much of the area is within the Chilterns National Landscape, which affects what can be built and how it should look. We take that into account from the first visit.
Woodland plots
Mature trees bring root protection, shade and access to plan around, and sometimes tree preservation orders.
Heavy, wet ground
Clay-with-flints on the higher ground holds water through the winter, so drainage is part of almost every job.

Questions
Can you work around protected trees?
Yes. We check for tree preservation orders, protect roots during the work and, where needed, work to an arboricultural method statement.
Do you build natural ponds?
Yes. A pond at the lowest point of the garden can collect water that would otherwise sit on the lawn, and brings wildlife in.
