Driveways

The first thing anyone sees of the house, designed with the same care as the garden behind it.

A driveway is a piece of engineering as much as a surface: sub-base, levels, drainage and edges all have to be right. We design and build driveways, entrance walls, gates and boundary planting as one approach to the house.

What's included

  • Resin-bound, gravel, block and natural stone driveways
  • Permeable surfaces and drainage
  • Entrance walls, piers and gates
  • Edging, kerbs and setts
  • Lighting to the approach
  • Frontage planting

How we approach it

  1. 01

    Drain it properly

Most new driveways need a permeable surface or managed run-off. We design for that from the start.

  2. 02

    Build the base

The sub-base is what you pay for and never see. Ours is dug and compacted for the load it will carry.

  3. 03

    Frame the house

Walls, planting and lighting that make the approach feel considered, not just paved.

Questions we're often asked

Do I need planning permission for a new driveway?

Front gardens over five square metres usually need a permeable surface, or drainage to a lawn or border, to avoid needing permission. We design to that by default.

Do you clean or repair existing driveways?

No. We design and build new driveways and entrances.

Start with a walk round the garden.

We will visit, look at the site with you and talk through what is possible. There is no charge for the first visit.
