Large gardens & difficult ground
Big plots and awkward ground, where the groundwork is half the job.
Large and sloping gardens need careful groundwork before they need planting: level changes, retaining walls, drainage, ponds, sports courts and woodland gardens. The heavy work is planned as carefully as the finish and done by the same team, so it is done once and done properly.
What's included
- Earthworks and level changes
- Engineered retaining walls
- Land drainage
- Ponds and natural water
- Tennis and sports courts
- Woodland and meadow planting
How we approach it
- 01
Heavy work, planned
Access routes, spoil removal and protection for lawns and trees are worked out before anyone arrives on site.
- 02
Engineered, not guessed
Retaining walls and drainage designed for the ground they sit in, with an engineer where the scale calls for one.
- 03
Planned in phases
Big gardens can be built over seasons, so the garden is usable while it is being made.

Questions we're often asked
Can the work be phased over more than one year?
Yes. We often plan a master design and build it in stages.
Will machinery damage the rest of the garden?
We plan access routes and protect lawns and roots before machines arrive, and reinstate anything we cross.
Start with a walk round the garden.
We will visit, look at the site with you and talk through what is possible. There is no charge for the first visit.
